The malls are still puking people, I still struggle to find parking on a weekend. All good restaurants are still over booked on Saturday and Sundays, multiplexes are still running house full, I still have to stand in long queues to pay my bills in Life Style and Shoppers Stop. There are still too many people in Spencer’s and More. So where is the recession?
How much more time will it take to start affecting the Junta?
Ps: I might be sounding cynical, but what the heck.
Updated on 19th Feb- Aman's Comment is really apt, I am adding it to the main post.
Aman - "Find reccession in the falling realty prices,, see it in every day reduction in interest rates,, observe it in sales numbers of all car makers,, feel it in the stimulus packages been doled out your government,, sense it in the announced lay offs...
Look at the ACs being switched off earlier than ever, hand tissues being preserved like gold, holes in the wadas becoming larger, coconut chutney becoming thinner... and at a lot more places!!!"

Recession is in the minds of people.

but did u notice that these queues are all in the sale times and every damn store has a sale running because they are not able to sell otherwise and the sales are like flat 60% flat 70% not like before upto 50% sales which used to have just one or two items in 50%
@Aman,
bang on with that
Recession is for developed countries not for developing may be.
Nice pic in recession time.
:))
well i was about to leave serious note but aman's comment about larger holes in vada and thinner coconut chutney left me in splits :)
and by the way, nice picture! :)
Aman's comment is so apt and funny I stole it and added to the main post obviously by giving him the due credit.
oh well! same question i asked when i couldnt get a single hotel in 3 different places around Blr for the 26th jan long weekend! :p
but yes, its there. when do WE get affected is the question on everyones mind!
cheers!
i agree with aman.
find recession in families whose main paying member committed suicide.
find recession in young families who no longer have a place to shelter their kids cuz parents could no longer make the mortgage.
find recession in many workers across the nation who live in constant fear of getting the axe any day regardless of how proficient they are in their profession.
find recession in the debilitating wall street ...
find recession in the falling commodity stocks ...
find recession in the steep drops in profits for major bigwigs in any industry ...
find recession in companies like Circuit City et Saab declaring bankruptcy ...
find recession in oil companies (especially service companies) feeling the pinch in a big manner.
if oil companies are laying people off, situation really is very dire! oil prices are sitting at 35-40 whilst profitable is around 75.
let's just hope it gets better before it gets worse. :| too many people suffering.
whose main EARNING member committed suicide I meant ... upon losing his/her job.
@ Abha - exactly my point..
@ Roop - i am aware, my ques was on the fact that we still seem to be spending as much
yes i understand yer aware, iya. i didn't mean to sound preachy. apologies if it came across like that.
i hear ye ... we felt the same when we were at a mall a week ago ... people are out and about ... and yet sales for every store are down. xmas was bad this year for most. i guess most of us are walking around trying to shed off our fears. :/ dunno. plus, thankfully, it hasn't yet touched india in a big manner and i hope it doesn't either.
Aman's comment is so apt, so is apt what Roop said.
But you are right too, that it is still some time before it hits aam junta.
it does has efefcted ...
people are buying coz its sale time and they rather buy now and dnt do much shopping next 6 months if situation prevails ....
and its also that people are spendign time in malls as an alternative to short trips on weeknds , expensive dinner at a good restruant .....
i hope things dnt get worse ...
@Roop - not at all, u didnt sound preechy and sorry if i gave that impression.. yes u r right on all the points u have made.. the post was like a reaction, i didnt think much before writting this..it was mostly irritation..
@ Mampi - ya, both Aman and Roop are right... i was irritated and hence wrote that..logically recession is there for all of us to see and feel..
@ Onthewings - i hope so too
